I Want To Get Back To Plecos

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tbh adding any pleco to that tank is asking for trouble. Bichirs and plecs often aren't a good mix, jardini and anything usually aren't a good mix, and you may have trouble getting it (species dependant) the right kind of food, or any food at all with the other nocturnal bottom feeders.

How big is your tank anyway? You have some potentially very large fish there, and that rules out many plecs altogether, and because of their slow growth means you're going to need to start with a large specimen.

Most plecos need well oxyginated water which usually means at least moderate water flow. The warmer the temperature, the less the water usually has oxygen in it so the more you have to keep eye on the flow. With the "fancier" plecos the common thing tends to be that they all need quite warm water, too. Diet needs to be checked, common pleco isn't just plain algae eater, they need a good basic fish food just as well. Gold nuggets need a lot of algae and veggies.
Plecos are pretty simple once you've learned the basics and set the tank up to it.
