I want YOUR opinions... An ethical question...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your fish, you do what you want, when you ask a question like that you open yourself up for some people to take offense. When I was breeding goldfish I couldnt keep all of the fry so I had to euthanise some. I found the most humane way to do it. I got burned out 2 years ago and ended up euthanising 1000.00 worth if fish. They had a disease that had no cure, but at the time they appeared to be healthy. So personal choice whatever you choose is no one elses business. Just don't dump them in a river or lake.

i think almost everyone missed the point of your thought experiment and completely ignored your question.

op was asking everyone what they would rather do given only the two options to choose from. (1) kill it quickly to avoid the possibility of prolonged suffering at the hands of a bad fish keeper -or- (2) take your chances at a pet store

great subject, thx for asking it-

while reading thru the post I find it interesting how often "giving it to a MFK" came up, People are getting jack slapped on here all the time for having too many fish in too small of a tank... or my favorite too few of fish and too many tanks :headbang2 yep that was me.

just for kicks lets say you believe that you take great care of your fish and to some you do... to others your fish would be happier with Bobby or Sussy
What makes a good fish tank home is a very broad statement while I do not feed my fish gold fish due to poss. illness others get gold fish every week ?? what does the fish like or does he know??? cats and dogs that come from always being chained or caged do not know there is a difference..... often time when saved they have to be retrained to walk on other surf.

While I believe there are lots of ways to address such an issue my suggestion would have to be place an add on CL and in LFS, Free to good home and you can go and see how they care for thier fish.....

We have a good LPS that does put a high price on larger fish and he likes to keep them to show people just want they are getting into... I know unheard of but it is true.

The other thing to think about here is the more LFS can sell, the more they buy from a whole saler the more they will be imported???

Oh man sorry for the long reply....:grinno: here we also have a Fish Rescue because it has become such a problem....

I would get a divider :P Really though, I think if one doesnt have the bucks to spend to get a fish another tank, one shouldnt be in this hobby.

^ based on what you just said, i would have to say take my chances at the pet store... i'd just make sure to talk to the owners and ask them to make sure it goes to as good a home as possible...

Don't think its fair to put down a healthy fish for reasons of not being able to house them...
