I mean come on - that "fact" has more holes than swiss cheese.

ya it can be a rule but it is definetly not a "proven" fact
it'd be too hard to prove

There are water spiders (even saltwater) as well as arctic spiders. That doesn't mean I believe the 3 foot fact but spiders live in every climate on every continent.

I'd say it's a pretty good estimate, just not a fact as you can check a 3' radius easily to debunk it.

i HATE spiders...but cant kill them purely because i cant get close enough to. but even then, i struggle with killing a wasp.
but then we dont have any 'dangerous' spiders over here. they r just huge and scary house spiders...gota love that name.
but strangely where i have moved to i have never seen a spider in my house....i love having a bosc lol

Last month I woke up when one of those guys dropped onto my face, I reflexively smashed him to my forhead and then turned on the lights to see what had happened. I about freaked out! I'm terified of spiders.

One of the reasons I'm glad to live where I live. Nothing big and ominous, or highly poisonous that can creep into my house....though those house centipedes freak me out. And I don't freak out that easily.
