Every aquarist nightmare is the loss of power and sure enough ours went out around 9:40 PM last night. We waited till around 11:00 and since we where approaching the point of no return with our canisters. We removed power from all of them in case it went back on hours from now. Our place is all electric so we didn't have heat as well. Power came on for good around 3:00 am placed some power heads and air stones in the tanks to get things moving. Power was still iffy as it ebbed and flowed every 5 minutes it seemed until it was on steady....then we started taking the canisters down and changing water...so far only one casualty, we will have to wait and see what the effects are as the tanks are basically recycling with a full bio load..

Let me know how everyone else on MFK did? losses... success:headbang2

Damn, no ice storm over here in Southern NH, but I definitely have around 8-10 inches of snow on the ground. When we got a snowstorm, a few weeks back when i was home, the power went out from 5ish-8ish pm. It sucked, i had the same heat problem as you, it got a little colder, and i was just hoping i would get power back for the tanks. I just lit a bunch of candles, and me and my friends just chilled with flashlights looking at the tanks, with a fat cigar in hand. Thank god the power came back on.

We woke up to almost a half inch of ice this morning and luckily, knock on wood, our power is still on.

We got snow but no power outage. Thank GOD! I don't know what I would do if I lost my Broud!

Im sorry to hear that . Knock on wood we sisnt lose power but i did run out and get some battery operated air pumps just in case . Hope it doesnt get any worse . If theres anything i can do for ya gimme a holler ill be happy to help

Sorry to hear! I have always feared power outages and therefore believed in power backup. Currently I only have 45min but the next one will be 5hrs. My last tank also had a UPS but they have to keep getting larger and larger.

I had a battery operated pump from Walmart, but lo and behold I couldn't find it in the dark..........LOL

luckily we didn't loose power here either, just got a crapload of ice and tree limbs down (one on top of my car :irked:) hopefully it stays this way and my fishies will be okay....just glad I brought the tank back from my mom's house now, she lost power for a total of 14 hours yesterday, that would have been disastrous, cause the fish are the last thing from her mind in a situation like that.

Nice set up..I've thought about those in the past however in hindsight you always say it can't happen to me..I was always under the impression depending upon the draw of your motors they only give you a small window...however 5 hours? Now I'll have to re-think my set up and power drain....thanks

That one only gives me 45mins as I need the chiller too. However, my next tank (215g) will have a giant 3.2kw model that will last 5hrs. My last tank used a smaller one than the one I have now and backed up the entire tank for 45mins. Untill you get to the really big ones, they stay reasonably cheap. $100 for that one /\ 500w 750va

How much wattage does your heater and filtration require? If you purchase a cheap, smaller heater (say, half what your running now) and set it two degrees lower then your current one, you can get one of these to last quite a while. Tell ya what, if your willing to do that, I'll send ya my old one (325w) just for the price of shipping. This is the link for it where I'm selling it local.
