So I recently set up a 55 I got of criegslist, Tank, Stand, Lights Filter for only $40, super steal.
Nothing had been in it for some time but i cleaned it thoroughly.
Cycled with big feeders that were healthy for weeks before returning them to get fish.
Setup right now is a sunset canister (280gph) and mainland penguin HOB(200gph) plexi glass top with one light. Tank has always been super clear to this day, friends didn't even believe it was filled.
Livestock 6 tiny Geophagus red humps, 2 small geophagus Brazilians, 1 tiny geophagus red head and 2 corys. some java fern. No bullies or aggression I've seen except one red hump sometimes chases other red humps.
After putting in the plant, idk came. First with the Red Head and spread to the rest of the tank exept cories. They are still super active and always want more food. There isn't much idk on them but its still there and bothering me. Water is 85f now and I put in an airstone for O2. I really don't want to put in any chemicals to cure the ick but I will is its absolutely necessary. Ive read that south american soft eater cichlids don't do well with salt except the brasilianis. Will temperature alone cure the ice?
