when should i start lowering the temp in my tank back to 79?
its currently at 84.7
should i wait till the 10 days are up then do a 50% waterchange?
god damn thats a lot of buckets lol

Two thumbs up on your success. How big is your tank? I always loved Irridescent Sharks but I cant imagine every being able to own a 200-300 gallon tank. They should really ban selling these guys in stores, every time i walk by them i feel sorry for them because their fate is doomed from the start.

Keep the temp for the next 10 days. The purpose of high temp is to force the parasites to produce quickly thus allowing the salt to destroy the free swimming parasites exposed to it.

currently they are in a 72 gallon tank
but we're in the midst of finishing our basement and i'm aiming for a built in thats considerably larger
just figured i'd start with a 72 and see how well i do
the id sharks are only 3 inches long atm

oh man ive just realised my tank has become infected with Ich. I've noticed it on my Blue Acara's and severums so far. I'm really worried about adding all this salt to my tank (it's a 120G btw). The severum's are new (probs what introduced it) and i have a very young blue acara in there too. Will i be able to treat the tank with just a temp. increase??

Getting quite worried now, I'm very fond of my fish... :(

Any help other than that above is very much appreciated.

P.S- sorry for the derail rubadub, but I read this thread and figured I could just pop in a question hope you dont mind.

No, just raising the temp will speed up the Ich lifecycle and infect/kill your fish that much faster. It's the salt that kills the parasite when it hatches. Raising the temp speeds up the Ich lifecycle to expose the larva to the salt faster.

so how much salt would you recommend is safe?? Will standard table salt be ok?? I understand these questions have already been answered above, I just waqnna clarify before i go ahead with anything...

Thanks for your help.

Table salt is fine as long as it does NOT contain yellow prussiate. Iodine is a moot issue.

1-3 teaspoons per gallon range. Your fish can tolerate 2 teaspoons per gallon. You need to add it at a teaspoon per gallon every 12 hours.

my tank's a 120 Gallon, so would i add 120 teaspoons of salt every 12 hours? Or i teaspoon every 12 hours until 120 is reached?? Thanks for your help, and ill make sure it doesn't contain yellow prussiate. Thanks again!!
The one in red.
