ICH on my Bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello; The short answer is yes it is not a good idea to mix more than one medication at the same time.
I am still assuming you are treating ich with high temps and salt. So do not treat with a second medication. As suggested, clean water by WC and keep the salt concentration at the effective level.
I am also assuming you are treating a large tank with other fish in it. Adding a second medication can be hard on all the fish and is uncertain to help the cloudy eye. My guess is that fish has lost the sight in that eye regardless.

The exception can be if you are going to treat the fish by itself in a separate QT (quarantine tank). Still a good chance that double dosing with more than one medication will do more harm than good.

All that said I get the impression you are cherry picking the suggestions that have already been made and apparently do not like some of them. This is because you are essentially asking the same question again. It boils down to the fact we each get to run our tanks any way we wish.
Good luck anyway.

I feel like we are beating a dead horse to get it to move.....

Sorry for asking basically the same question....so it's safe to assume that he won't regain his vision in that eye and let the salt do it's thing as a mediator along with clear water.

Can I also assume that these fish are azul as mention before??

Fish look to be azuls, I would be more worried about getting the fish healthy than what type it is, if you lose it by not doing as suggested then it doesn’t matter. Depends how bad the infection is in the eye but more than likely he will be blind on that side

Sorry for beating the dead horse now I know my mistake for basically asking the same question just in another form. Its just that I didnt think or consider malachite green as a medication since with saltwater you can mix it with different medication without a issue....

Sorry...... now in the future I wont make the same mistakes again because I will be asking more questions again about peacock bass, after I do my google search and after I try a couple of tricks on trying to get these guys to eat pellets. ATM im doing the toss in the feeders one at a time and qt feeders(thinking of breeding them to lower cost down) and currently debating on building a 1000gal tank out side or buy a 300-500gal tank and putting supports on the floor board to support the weight.

Hello; I did a search for malachite green and found a site which describes some aquarium uses. The link is above. It is a koi site.
Among the bits of information was a statement that malachite green should not be used along with salt.

I think there have been two points in this thread. One being that the most commonly suggested ich treatment is the use of salt and a temperature raise. I somehow had the impression you had already started a salt bath.

It appears that if you wish to use malachite green, then the salt should be first diluted by a series of WC.

I suggest a search on the possible effect of a medication on the bb population of a tank before using. It is also my understanding the salt bath plus a temperature raise is safe for the tank bb.

You should feel free to reject any advice on this open forum is the second point. Some poor suggestions have been posted in threads right along with good advice. Your chore is to decide which suggestions are worth considering. Not an easy chore sometimes when completely opposing opinions are posted.

Run your tanks any way that suits.

You can use other treatments if you wish. However I generally just use one sort of medication at a time. There can be exceptions such as mixing up a solution in a separate tank and using it as a short term "dip" where the fish is placed into the "dip" for only a brief time every day.

Good luck

Get a tough storage tote, buy another heater, airstone, and treat the blind fish in storage tote. Keep temperature in 80F and you can treat with Kordon Malachite green for both ich and the eye. No salt. Do daily large water changes since the tote will not be cycled. Do not dose new water with MG until after 1 hour of adding water conditioner, since the water conditioner is a reducing agent.

Tough storage tote like this one or larger (27g would be fine temporarily for a 6" TL fish as long as 80%+ water changes are done every day)

Before you put him in there though, fill the tote with tank water that has the salt, and do 25% water changes every day to slowly bring down the salt. So it won't be until day 6 or 7 that you should add the MG.

Hi random question but does anyone know what type of bass these are?
