unfortunately i purchased a blue regal tang the other day and i guess with transport, she contracted ick. Shes in a 55 G with a yellow tail damsel, clow fish, and a snowflake eel. Whats the best way to treat her? The other fish dont look like they have any white spots on them yet. I was plannin on goin to walmart tomorow to purchase a 10 G tank to treat her in. Whats the best method? She is still eatin like a hog...

well treating in a seperate tank is good you might want to do a freshwater dip and let her stay in hospital tank for 3-4 week's there probably most likely ich cysts in the tank now so if you don't have one already invest in a UV sterilizer or get a good cleaner shrimp. If you have a lfs go and get some treatment's for the ich if not got to Drsfosterandsmith.com and get this

So i treated the tank with copper and from what i thought it cured her ick. I guess it killed the ich on her but didnt kill all of it. It looks like its back on her and my flame angel. I dont wanna treat with copper again. Has anyone ever tried hyposalinity method? I keep my salinity around 1.023. Whats the safest lowest i could go? I dont have any inverts so im safe there. No corals yet either. Livestock: yellow tail damsel, one clown fish, blue tang, and a flame angel in a 55G.
 
I would get a UV light on your filtration to kill all the cyst's and research the hyposalinity method I have heard through some of the expert's it working good but they said if you attempt really research it. I would just treat with some sort of Ich stop till you can get a grip on the problem or do the copper again. If possible Isolate in a separate tank the sick flame angel to keep the ick from spreading.

from what ive seen on the internet, copper and flame angels dont mix well. I dont want to add copper 2nd of all because im goin to be adding corals eventually. Supposely copper stays in your lr rock for long periods of time. Think im just goin to lower the salinity over the next couple days and monitor the fish.
 
I usually keep my sg around 1.025. Im in the process of dropping it now at 1.021. Once i get it down to around 1.09 and keep it there for a couple weeks, im goin to raise it back to around 1.021. Is that too low for the life of my fish? I have no corals yet. I know they require a lil bit more sg, but for now only FO.

There is some debate in small circles of marine aquarists that keeping a lower Salinity does in fact aid the health of the fish...however, never seen any long term documented proof of this...Personaly, i would get your SG back up too around 1.025 - 1.026 after the hypo treatment..
