I recently bought a fish labelled as a Pearl parrot (Kirin/Killin) it was with two others from same batch, same fins and same pattern and same size but with the parrot head, closing mouth and no kok. This fella has a kok so chose him. I just need confirmation that I have a Kirin?!

I was sure but there are so many variances that I would like some guidance.

never heard of Kirin before. lol but yours is a short body red dragon fh. nice though.

As they were sold as Flowerhorn x blood parrot, is it possible that as it's still small it is just a specimen that has more flowerhorn DNA than blood parrot, or is this a short body without a doubt? Just want to make sure I am prepared for the potential aggression.

Otherwise I am guessing that the red dragon fh x parrot had a couple of sb red dragon fry get in with them and I have ended up with one. Fingers crossed he co-exists with in my severum tank......

just a short body.

Thanks for clearing that up, I am guessing fry got mixed. As out of the 3 in the store two looked like generic lfs parrots but red dragon pattern and this guy (i am assuming it's probably male?!) was the same finage, and body shape but clearly different and far better pattern and colouring. They have since got 12 more off the same supplier with a few apparently showing a kok, would it be worthwhile trying to source a female or keep this guy and hope he plays nicely with others?

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

yup, i say male too. im not a big fan of short bodies, becuz it looks like tht they can hardly swim just like parrots. hahah i would go find a better and normal looking fh. but it is up to you. and what size tank is he in and tankmates?

Well I saw him in the shop, went home researched flowerhorns and parrot fh mix and bought him the next day as the odds of him working with my other fish were in my favour as an apparent fh x bp.

The tank is 150 x 50 x 50cm 100 gallon. With a pair of gold severum 10" and 16 gold barbs.

Obviously the odds of him working in my tank are greatly reduced now but a full on normal fh could be worse. Unless a normal shape female fh would work?

If you was in this situation what would be your plan of action?

a bit risky mixing it with gentle community fish especially barbs and also those severums. fh can be very2 aggressive when they start to get use to their environment and as they get bigger they will be more territorial. and i think it will get worse if u add any more fh to your 100g. but i would observe the fh's behaviour a little bit more, maybe a few weeks, to see if there are any aggression showed by him, and if it does u have to remove it somehow. btw, how long have u mix the severums with the barbs? no aggression so far by them?
