Best way to tell is venting. If you cant pull them and vent sex I would watch them awhile, watch how they interact, look at their belly area if they are wide or swollen in the naughty parts they are probably females. Lots of females will have a black spot in the middle of the dorsal too.

That's a great help thanks! So am I best leaving the male in the tank with the sevs to adjust and settle in for a couple of months or source a female and let them grow a little and pair up. If the male settles and grows without her will this reduce aggression? Is there any benefit to either option?

I would grow the male a bit. Get him bigger and comfortable in the tank. That way hes able to handle a female when the time comes. You may be able to track down an even better female during that time also. You really want the male to be larger. It can work both ways depending on the fishes. Some females will spawn with anything, some will try to destroy the male and lay eggs all by herself lol.

Thanks for the advice, I will focus on male for now. Until I find a nice female or select a Kamfa. What other flowerhorn/hybrid females are worth a look to pair with my male? Not much in Uk that I can see so far so after all options. I must say I am impressed by this forum and it's members!!!
