Kirin is a BPxFH cross and this is not a short body. It's a zz bonsai.

That does look more like my little fh.

a bit risky mixing it with gentle community fish especially barbs and also those severums. fh can be very2 aggressive when they start to get use to their environment and as they get bigger they will be more territorial. and i think it will get worse if u add any more fh to your 100g. but i would observe the fh's behaviour a little bit more, maybe a few weeks, to see if there are any aggression showed by him, and if it does u have to remove it somehow. btw, how long have u mix the severums with the barbs? no aggression so far by them?

The Severum have been with the gold barbs since some were 1" and they never bother with them, they ignore the FH and a pair of 2" dempsey that a mate handed me (soon to give them a dedicated tank), they assert authority over another breeding pair of Severum (Heros appendiculatus) but I am selling them as they are pretty rare in hobby, best let a breeder have them to get them into the hobby.

I have never known any issues with severum and any dithers although wouldn't risk neon tetra.

nice man. ure selling the severum becuz they are rare in aquarium trade ? lol
do keep an eye on the fh, be prepare to put him in another tank if he gets more aggressive. do u have any other tanks?

When I say "rare in trade" it's because these are, they are similar to rotkeil but blue with red squiggles on their cheeks, they are in a tank with a larger pair and won't spawn so I either put them in another tank or sell them to a breeder who can start making fry available to a few hobbyists.

I have a 180l tank I could use but may upgrade to a 6ft tank and put my current 5ft under in a custom stand like a sump but for the FH.

So my FH should look like one of these? Or not?

Nice shortbody red dragon. Really cute. Sb are nice because they will still get good sized but not as big as a regular fh. Its nicer than a bp shaped kirin in my opinion. I love shorties lol. He should be more of a fun wet pet than your sevs are.

You may have luck in keeping the shortbody in your current set up just watch and have a plan in case you need to get rid of some fish. Hes probably fertile too so if interested in breeding you can grow your kamfas and cross a female with him. That should get you some good kamfas and a few of them will be shorties too. The two sb you have pictured above are sb kamfa.

Hi, yeah he is fun, and straight to the glass whenever I approach the tank (or walk past the door to the room for that fact), makes me wonder that if he is this small and new to the tank and this personable within days, he should keep me entertained. Keeping a close eye on his temperament though.

How long do they have an olive green face for? We'll I am new to FH's so looking forward to seeing what's in store. Glad that my £25 investment is a Flowerhorn rather than the mix I was sold him as, still not sure how he was in a group of kirin.

So he is a Red dragon? Will he therefore grow to look like the fish on the right in this video? http://youtu.be/YNopWakyNUw

i haven't got the Kamfa yet, wasn't sure whether to or not as wasn't sure on housing him with them as they grow. If I do get them they're 3" and in a 4' tank of 20+ specimens showing zero aggression. Can they grow with him? Obviously adding 1-5 Kamfa to my sev tank is unlikely to be a good idea. But when I get a female what size tank would they need? Can a little pair be housed with anything?

A bonded pair preparing to breed will tolerate almost nothing that gets close to them lol. If their tankmates stay away it may work. Growing out other fish with him may lead to trouble. The males will fight each other. It would be best to just let him grow a bit and settle into the tank, he will really bloom into something nice if he is comfortable and well cared for. If the kamfas are 3-4" you should be able to sex them so that might make selecting a female easier if thats what you are going for. Females can be just as aggro as males sometimes so its a roll of the dice just like breeding other cichlids.

I know that there are many sites that describe sexing FH's but do you have any tips selecting a Kamfa female. As mentioned before the parents were a FH and a synspilum if this alters it at all?! Probably best to get a sole female rather than 5 random Kamfa.

i have looked at other FH females although they are listed at around £80 which makes a £5 Kamfa seem a good place to start.
