Here's a couple pics of my Festae babys that i got from Ira

This is exactly what mine look like. They were in a tank with bumblebee cichlids because the manager really didnt know what to do, didn't think they were red devils. Now that they have settled down in their growout tank, they look exactly like this, same red tint to the fins, same eye spot on the tail, same shape, same, same, same, same. I can't see it being anything else.

Believe me, if I turn out to be wrong, I'll be the first to admit it. But every picture of juvie festaes I've seen looks like what I've got. I haven't seen a single red devil/midas picture that resembles these fish. not one

Even if I'm wrong, that's still wonderful because I will have learned something. This, to me, is half the fun of fish keeping. Growing out 'mystery fish'.

[side note: We got dovii in today at work and I text my girlfriend a picture and the message I got back was "NO. Sam, no. NO. NO. NO. PLEASE' LOLOL]

I posted a thread in the FH/Hybrid sub forums & got the same answer.
RD/Midas or a cross of the 2.

They honestly truly, sincerely do NOT look like that. The bodies on these guys are not this long. they are a little stubbier. Like Arnold's head [HEY ARNOLD! doo-doo doo doo doo-doo do doodoo! doo-doo-doo doodoo! doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doodoodoo....doodoo doo doo-doo. LOL]

I see the red devil shape on those guys. They guys really are a little more football-ish shaped.

they were NOT sold to me as red devils. The manager said very clearly that they were NOT red devils ,but couldn't make a different tag for them.

I know him, he's my girlfriend's boss, and he knows a good deal about this stuff. He also said that he's never seen a red devil come in like this in the four years he's worked there. Maybe it's a different Amphi, but every festae picture I've seen looks like what I've got, and the midas pictures really don't.

It's shorter than the young midas. The fins are tinted red with blue spangles, and now that they are comfortable and not being terrorized the coloring is spot-effing-on. they aren't that tan-poop-blah color, they have a black/reddish/yellowish color.

If the body was more elongated, I'd agree with all of you. It's way different since you can't see it in person. I'll try to get some newer pictures after I eat something.

Trust me, in a month or two you'll be eating crow. ;)

You said in your very first comment that "My fiance works at an LFS in our town, and these fish were found mixed in with a shipment of red devils". They weren't "mixed in". They are red devils. That means they were sold to your store as red devils. You just assumed them not to be.

look up false red terror or mayan cichlid, looks like juvies of them, could be wrong but that wat i see esp. with the spot on the tail.

there barred midas
