to everyone on this website to whom i have recommended lima shovelnose cats as tankmates with bichirs. at first, i got a small one, that got its tail bitten off, and was eventually eaten by my bichirs and i figured it was just too small. so i got a large one and things have been going great. i have been having a really busy week with baseball tryouts at my high school, and i had only fed my fish once or twice since last saturday. well friday morning, i woke up to a great surprise.

What kind and how big are your polys. I think just because this happened to you doesn't mean that putting limas with polys are a bad thing. You have to remember each fish is going to have there own personality. Obviously yours do not like these guys and are aggressive towards them.

Another thing it could be to is if you have had your polys for awhile now and there getting older they start to get set in there ways. It would probably have been different say if you would have got the lima first and let him get to a good size then get the polys. Then the polys would have grown up with the lima and probably would not have seen him as either a food source or a threat. I know I have an adult oscar and two adult GT's that pretty much don't get along with much at all due to how I raised them mostly being alone there whole lives. Now if I would have housed them with fish from the start when I got them when they were babies this would probably be a different scenario. You know the old saying you can't teach a old dog new tricks I think it is even more true for fish.

mm.. maybe not polys in general, more like freakin' evil ornates!
