Dilema & Modest_Man
I'm sorry that you disagree with me on this, but I breed, bred many types of JD's & was taught to look for this colouration in Split Gene JD's. I can tell you that in my experience I've never seen that colouration on any WTJD's, but I have seen it in BGJD's & BGGG's. It's true that sometimes the colour isn't visible on all Split genes, but you won't ever see it in WTJD's like (Dilema) says. The colour isn't because of better water conditions either & I know because I've moved my split genes from tank to tank with different variables & the colour is always there.
As for (Modest_Man) comparing fish genetics with human genetics.:screwy: It's laughable :grinyes:... You can't compare fish/humans.
(Modest_Man) It's O.k. to disagree with this, but bring your info to the table when claiming it to be false.

Thank You

Jill ;)

Your color sorting practices holds no merit distinguishing BGJD from NON BGJD, it's a recessive genetic trait that isn't visible to the naked eye. You may be picking JD for a certain color hue and that's about it. Do you think you and your teacher are the only wise people who've worked with these fish to date? Don't you think the person who discovered the trait in his stock worked all the possible genetic/phenotype angles before the fish were released. I've seen/read these color sorting claims from seller(s) on AquaBid, it's just a way to sell JD that may or may not have the blue gene at a higher price.

I'm only rebuffing your post as they shouldn't be perpetuated any further. If anyone wants to dig deeper visit these 2 sites and start posting your ideas there and see what unfolds, both are JD specialty sites that have some of the most/best/experts on breeding EBJD and JD in general. I've learned a lot there.

Let it be said I'm not trying to get you to stop your practices on color sorting your stock, continue on you'll probably have some the best color/line breed JD out there blue gene or not. ;) On the other hand I also hope you poke around on the sites provided if you have the time and do some posting there too.

Welcome to MFK
I'm sorry to see that my findings are not to your liking.
As for you trying to point me in the direction of two sites that I know well is laughable. Both the sites you mention are Dead. Why don't you go and post or open your own thread on them instead of talking here with ppl you think don't know anything?
Go enjoy those sites & don't get yourself all worked up on what I think or have been taught.
Go on and work with these types of fish & get your own data so you can actually have a debate with me.
Something I learned earlier here @ MFK is that you can't advertize another forum/website.
I'd remove it from your post before a mod does it for you.
Thank You & once again Welcome to MFK
