Big chain pet stores often misidentify flowerhorns, so don't take their word for it. Do some research 
I wouldn't add a substrate for flowerhorn unless you really can't stand bare bottom aquariums as it can get stuck in their mouths.I would also add substrate. A pool filter sand or smaller gravel would be good.

For flowerhorns, some ornaments will help when settling in, but as soon as he's settled in remove the ornaments as they will pose a risk to you Golden based fader.
He’s still adjusting to his environment. He just needs time. Also I’d personally lower the temp a bit. I’d keep it 75-80f. 28c/82f is a bit too high and longterm will increase risk for bacterial infection and lowers their already compromised lifespan.Guys help me out, still after two days my flowerhorn is very shy when I go nearby and I hope it's taking food as I just feed and leave the room. I set up a temperature around 28 c . Sometimes it's coming to the front of the tank when am nearby but just a quick swirl it again set itself to top corner or bottom corner...
