Lol this is how it starts lol. Im a poly rookie but i guess start with what size tank you have..you should start a thread the guys/gals in this section are really good
I have a handful of tanks, but likely they'd end up in a 75 or 300. Mostly depends on how well they play with the more peaceful SA cichlids. I'm sort of just probing what the best way to jump in is. For whatever reason I think it would be easier starting with larger specimen as opposed to growing out little cb ornates and senegals, but I haven't nearly enough research. I just find them exciting to look at, I've really come to like ornates, endlis, and moke but I think I've been seeing them a lot recently. I've only done some preliminary research, so I know the upper jaws stay at more reasonable sizes, but I guess most lowers get a bit larger for a 30" width.
I keep mine with cichlids and have no issues. It depends on what cichlids though. Its really what you like some people like lower jaws better than upper jaws and vice versa. I like all of them and would say one is better than the other.

My biggest bully right now is a chocolate, and he is pretty mild. The list would be 2-4 severum, 2 chocolates which might end up separated if they pair off, and a few mesonauta. I could do a cichlid free 75, but I'm pretty sure that limits a lot of possibilities.
Imo those are perfect tankmates for polys because they aren't too aggressive and won't attack them. If you get them smaller you could grow them out in the 75. A 30in width tank should be fine for a lower jaw because more than likely it won't grow to 30in and if it did it would take a while.
