I can see what you mean about the black and up's. The laps in qt is with black gravel. I like the way he looks but wouldnt want a tank with black substrate. Gotta settle for pfs or garnet/red flint sand.

Red, purple, garnet-ty semi-bright substrate is a way to go. I got a wild lap just like yours. Was green in a dark substrate at the store. Here's mine on red. Kinda resembles a young pbb right? Lol

I had black gravel a while back and its just too dark didnt like it. To me it didnt look natural and will darken the pearsei way too much.
I like the way that looks Vancouver but i think i wanna stay with sand. Between the way my filters are set up and dosing with ridx i dont have to vacum anything during wc's just drop the hose in and remove water walk away. Im gonna try the red flint or garnet and see how it goes.

Hate to tell ya bro lol but laps and pbbs look almost identical when 14" and under lol no matter what substrate it's really really hard to tell em apart
Jaws, I'd go with red garnet-ty type sand too if I can find them. Just didn't want to deal with shipping. The addition of the XXXXXL plus one more "X" sized red gravel was more of a $35 quick experiment (45lbs). to see how much change would occur. Man! it's amazing!

This was mine same kind as his on red mixed with10-20% black ... Gotta add that black in for optimum pattern popping lol
Thanks bro no doubt your fish look great the results speak for themselves. I just got to lazy/spoiled with my wc's.
Im gonna try the red flint sand first if i dont like it then go with the tried and tested garnet sand
