lol. No, synos are not plecos.. they arent suckerfish and will not suck off a slimecoat. Also it is probably going to get bigger. 8-10" is typical. great fish :)

I've owned this catfish before and it has never tried to suck off the slime coat of any my fish lol...it is a voracious eater though and will consume everything. Only thing was that this catfish would constantly bicker with my ghost knife but nothing serious

Yeh, mine has become more territorial as it's grown. It chases off my plecos and bumps into them to make sure they know who the king of the bottom is. lol

Like any catfish that gets decent size, it shouldn't be trusted around little fish that fit easily in it's mouth. Accidents can happen. lol "Have you been eating your friends!!?!?!"

Thanks everyone. I went to go grab him after running all my required errands and the little guy was gone. Obviously I was a bit PO'd. Nevertheless, now I've found a new catfish to look for. The catfish I've liked the most are usually best kept alone (like my e cat, or the gulper I've wanted forever). But this guy looks great, gets big enough to live with my semi-mean fish, and doesn't devour fish twice his size. I think I'll be looking for one of these guys soon.

great fish. i gave mine away when i broke down the tank. i am going to get another to go with my current stock list. they will fight with cichlids over territory yet be peaceful enough to keep with tetras

awe, what a bummer. I was hoping to see pics. Would've made a great tankmate. My syndo (whatever type it is) cleans up real good and is about 4-5", but is kept with some big guys. Nobody messes with "spiny" as we call him. Just minds his own business. He's also kept with the 15" achara x tsn, boisterous giraffe cat, 11 yr old oscar and ID sharks. Great tank mate for what you have, IMO, and I think he's awesome looking. Go find another!!!

Are his eyes really as blue as they look in your pictures?!?!?

YES! He was fricken' awesome, and someone grabbed him for $1.... and it wasn't ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sucks. 1$ is an awesome deal. I have a 10in ocillifer a 6in eupterus and a 6in angelicus that used to live with my polypterus. They got along great. Lots of night time antics! But I got a bigger tank and broke up the band.

I have never had my 6 or 7 euptera rasp any slime coat. I've read it can happen though. I imagine quite rarely. Check out the links in this thread - the article about why euptera should not be sold for community tanks describes slime rasping/sucking: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=34931&hilit=euptera

Indeed, euptera should not stay at 5". It should max out at 10"-12" TL.
