head shape, eyes and tail shape says alot too ;)

Still learning in that regards. But you are so right. I have been noticing a big diffrence in the shapes of my own cichla.

So what are we seeing different in these pictures that we are no noticing in the pictures previously posted?

I'm just trying to spark disscussion not arguing.

Tug,
Was sup up brotha! I have only just begun to ID so that was just my first impression that the diamond shape of the strips is about as clear as I can see from looking through all the information that I have seen over the weekend. As for past Id's made incorrectly I would not be the best person to chime in on that. I think this finding that I have found is only in the case when the photographer is as good as yourself :D. In most cases I have found that the picture needs to be of somewhat good quality first and formost. I think there will need to be more identifying markes to make a 100% id in the case of bad photos ie.. body shape/head shape and so on. I myself have never owned Orino so I am still in the learning stages of what I see here. Someone who owns all of these cichla needs to add a few of the other identifyable markers that they can see in there own cichla.

Spoken like a true pimp, sounds good to me ;)

I'm noticing on my particular fishes that there is a very slight yellow/gold lining around the black markings on their tail and mid-section. You only catch it at glance but there is no doubt there is a different color bording the black. I think the diamond pattern may mean something too, as I have yet to see this in any of my previous youngsters.

I'm not experienced enough to point out the head shape and the differences between species, so I'll take your word on that one.

Does the blue hue to the dorsal and tail fin mean anything? Like in my first picture, that hue really is noticable in person, only in the right light but no doubt it's there.

So what else can we add to this thread...anything? We might just have to wait and see what happens next.

I knew you would have a great description of what I can't see in the picture and as the fish grows. Right on for the information. These are the things that us that don't own them don't get to see. And good info to id them. :D

Neither am I, but as I just learned today it does make a difference as they do have differences between the three in question. I am learning but my learning curve is I don't own Orino. :(

I believe and have heard here before that is a good indication of the fish being the offspring or the original Wild Caught Sp. I can say that this is shaky at best as I have seen blues in a lot of different fish in my time. But I wll say that I have never seen the Blues/Yellows/Greens/Reds/Golds, and Oranges I see in my Wild Caught Cichla. I see other members have posted about this as well. I also feel that Diet and Lighting play a major role. And of course W/C is number 1 in my tanks. ;)
