I would agree that it's not an orino but whatever it is, it is very unique. I've not seen a mono with that much black and when the black recedes as mentioned the fish has just 2 spots.

Wasn't this a fish from Nick at N-E? Weren't they supposed to be wild caught? You might have something pretty unusual.

i never had any of my orinos ever have any shapes of blacks.. imo thats a mono characteristic.... maybe mjunior or catfishlover will back me up.

i got you covered BRaddAh BooST... i would have to agree with what has been mentioned... or shall i say "I CONCUR"..... reason: stress patterns show of a different sp... as in like (FARM RAISED) monoculus~x~ocellaris.... also if you are going by his facial patterns... dont get to hung on that because @ that age/size the markings will be oulined yellow/goldish..... and once again it portrays it as being a monoculus~x~ocellaris....

Thanks Junior, it was hard loosing this fish and his brother (oh ya, they both got creamed by the rays) but what sucks more.....is trying to track down replacement orinos.....I can't find little ones anywhere, let alone affordable ones.

Why did my rays have to be such buttheads!!?

I don't want to de-rail this thread to much but yes the order was a mixed lot. I think we ordered something like 20-25 "orinos" and ended up with 2-3 real orinos (luckily I recieved 2 of the real ones). It was a bad deal....but like I said this isn't about the past and I don't want to hijack.
