As you can see it has some size, about 12inches at 2 years old and very thick in the body. Sorry about the pic quality but it is with my phone.

looks like a Madagascar cichlid. which is considered a african. i am not certain on the species. try asking in the african forum.

It's quite possible, though I'd doubt the Government could be bothered about it given I believe they were stupid enough to introduce them into some local systems to eat Mosquitos.. which our natives do more effectively anyway.

I know some people are catching them in the Brisbane River.

Wow, that looks like one of the Paratilapia or Paretropheus species. Like perhaps menarambo? Except, a hybrid? Very interesting. Moving this to Mikes section to see if he can help!

He owns an aquarium store and the DPI frequent his place so we get a little jumpy about fish on the noxious list.
