Headstander or Pencilfish? Looks almost Cyprinidy to me...
^^One, Leporinus is NOT a Characin, but closely related Two, Leporrinus have verticle stripes as a rule

Leporinus are, in fact, characins.
Also, I'd imagine there are some kinds of lesser seen leporinus that have horizontal stripes.
 
They are Anostomus taeniatus Common name Lisa (yes its true the name )

hmmm dunno , but it seems its still a lil different... cuz if u compare the one in the pic to this lisa.... their dorsal fin is located differently o.o

I just looked it up, Leporinus are in the suborder of Characins butg branch out into their own family. Just like all Catfish are in Siluridei, but Plecos aren't closely comparible to a Redtail Catfish.

Both plecos and RTC are Siluridei just like both Leporinus and hydrolycus are characins... :screwy:
