A good amount of CAs can hybridize. I've never bred any hybrids and I don't know a lot ofspecifics, but don't have much doubt a Jack Dempsey and firemouth could hybridize.

does anyone thing he has some Amphilophus citrinellus in him??

It definitely looks like it could. I didn't think of that before, but now that you've brought it up, it does bear quite a resemblance to these A. citrinellus:

its not a jd mix. its definately one of the (insert the scientific classification for firemouth) species. i still believe firemouth. and the person who suggested con may be right. its not normal for both species to attain such sizes but it is possible. some firemouth get huge and so do some well kept cons. cons and firemouth hybridize all the time. the updated pics more convict keeps coming through in the body and fins. the only thing that is throwing me off is the green sheen in the face.

Sure looks like an Astatheros robertsoni. Considering the fish came with injuries, give it some time, let the fish completely heal and color up, and then maybe it might be more obvious exactly what it really is.

Still sticking to Firemouth X Convict.

@Modest, I believe thats a scratch, not a parasite, but only the OP can confirm that.

what does OP mean?? owner person? and yes just a sratch. tanks being medicated anyways to help him heal up.

what does OP mean?? owner person?

lol it means Original Poster, and yeah it looks like it might be a scratch with skin hanging off but OP should def look at it to be sure, and person saying FMxConvict, there is NO way this is what this fish is if it is 8in, would at least have to have something else in it. im still sticking to it most likely being pure though from something in the astatheros group...
