Yes this is an unfaded red Texas
At what point do they start to fade? I assumed it was marked incorrectly at the store... even as he has grown - he never had red coloring... he’s about 6 or 7 inches now and I’ve had him for probably 8 months.

Something ridiculous...

Pretty lame to be calling someone's fish ridiculous (even if it's unknowingly posted in the wrong sub-forum) -- I'm sure OP digs his fish as much as you do yours (and I also would be zero surprised if it's more beautiful (and interactive) than any of the 'righteous' purebred fish in your tank).

Scorpio99 Scorpio99 as a couple of others have said your lovely fish is for sure a Kamfa-Red Texas mix.

Would highly recommend to keep it solo -- Melissa's community tank is apparently working (for now), but if so it's the exception not the norm --most Kamfa-Red Texas are hyper aggressive and territorial, you'll usually see their best when kept alone and you don't have to worry about it beating the living daylights out of other fish.

It's good your thread was moved to the proper sub-forum though , it's much less likely any holier-than-thou purist types will insult you or your fish over here ;)

Is it possible to identify male or female??

Is it possible to identify male or female??

It's kind of hard to tell with that one, you'd have to take a photo of its vent (which usually means taking the fish out of the water) to know for sure. If you don't want to take the fish out to do that (as it's stressful for them), at least try to get some better pix of it's bottom area. I'm no sexing expert but I heard if the little 'weenie' thing is pointing backwards it's probably a male; if pointing forward it's likely a female.
