Could certainly have some amphilophus in it. Looks like a lowgrade flowerhorn or just a random hybrid CA cichlid. Wouldn't say it's rare by any means, but if you like the fish and it's happy with you, that's what matters!
He's happy! Got his own little tank for now... I haveva bigger set up stocked with south american meanies... But I don't want to disrupt the community they all get along for the most part. A little bickering here and there but they definitely get a long most of the time... Thanks for the feed back!! Appreciated...

Agree, either one of the barred Nicaraguan Amphilophus aquarium strains, or Amphilophus hybrids.
below is Amphilophus amarillo.

I would say it's a possible Red Terror and Flowerhorn hybrid from how the body shape and flowerline look. The flowerspot on the tail is what makes me think it has some Red Terror in it, mainly due to the placement of the spot. Red Terrors have their tail spot located higher up from the middle of the tail unlike their look alikes, the Mayan cichlids, which have a larger tail spot located more towards the middle of the tailfin.

As for my reasoning for the FH part is just due to it having a defined flowerline and it's body shape is that of a Trimac cichlid, one of the bases of FH's, along with the slightly red chest it has.

As for Red Devil, it's kind of close. Red Devil's and Red Terrors do come from the same family of fish and have very similar colors and patterns in the wild. The only thing is is that Red Devil's don't have the same tail spot the Red Terrors do.

Honestly tho it is a very nice looking hybrid. Would love to see how it turns out once fully grown.
The closest relationship that Amphilophus Labiatus and Mesoheros Festae share is they are both members of cichlidae. By this any cichlid is a member of the same family. Whether it be Acaronia Vultuosa and Theraps Irregularis or Chaetobranchus Flavescens and Darienheros Calobrensis.
Amphilophus and Mesoheros don’t overly have the same colours in the wild either and are very easily distinguishable between the two.

Is it just me or it looks red devilish? And what??

Your fish is either a low grade flowerhorn, or a bared variant Amphilophus. There is 18 species in the Amphilophus genus, many of which are very similar in morphology (some show differences). Your fish could be a hybrid of any of these 18 (although a few Amphilophus species are not in the hobby as far as I’m aware)

You do know that there is 2 different breeds of Festae right? Ya have Amphilophus Festae and Mesoheros Festae which, when put side by side, have very few differences in their over all appearance. I think the Mesoheros Festae is just a tad greener then the Amphilophus Festae if I'm remembering correctly.

Amphilophus Festae is not the correct / current scientific name. It is a much former name. The correct and currently accepted nomenclature is Mesoheros Festae. There is no species of Festae in the family Amphilophus. The only Festae In cichlidae resides in Mesoheros.

This is correct, there is one Festae, and Amphilophus is just an outdated name. There is also the false red terror Mayaheros uropthalmos which looks a bit similar but is very different from the Mesoheros. Also called the Mayan cichlid.

Looks like a low grade flowerhorn, most of them are heavy on trimac genes, hence the red eyes, similar markings and body shape. I had one for a couple years, great fish, they just don't color up like the more expensive flowerhorns.
