Mesoheros festae bounced around in a number of genera throughout the years, it was first placed in Heros (1899), then in the catch--all Cichlasoma (1905), for a while in Parapetenia, toyed with Amphilophus, and even Nandopsis (2000) for a short time.
But in 2015 it was placed in Mesoheros, by McMahan. There is not, an Amphilophus festae, the genus Amphilophus is restricted to cichlids in Central America, Mesoheros are restricted to those cichlids west, and north of the Andes mountain range in South America from Peru, to Colombia.
