The young ones do, this fades with age. Adult floridas are typically dull in color but have a defined carapacial pattern.

Wow hudge difference in size both roughly same age? I set out minnow trap yesterday for few hours when I got back there were 2 softshells hanging out in water over the trap.
I didnt catch anything but threw the hotdogs,bread in the water for them.
 
Ok this is interisting, in one of my favorite turtle books ther´s a photo showing a copple of spineys with the inverse coloration of these.The male has the blonched patern and the female the spoted patern.

The image is small but you can see those if you go kingsnake classifeids,select turtles and then at the top of the page select turtle source
