This is definately a Tyrannochromis species, and like someone previous said probably a juvenile male Macrostoma.

Reckon that an average Tyrannochromis will grow to 30cm some get larger. Nigriventers and Maculiceps have grown to 35cm of many occasions.

If you have a 5 foot tank I am sorry to say you will need to get rid of this fish. Whether this is a Tyrannochromis or a Fuscotaeniatus(Which I am 100% sure this fish isn't I have bred and raised quite a few of both species in the past few years) The larger this fish grows the more aggressive it will get. It takes a couple of years for the fish to grow to the size mentioned, but he should reach 25cm within 2 years after they are born

well if i keep him i will get him a bigger tank when he needs it. but i think you are right about the species, just looked up a juvie one and they look the same, so thankyou. i shall now start my research :) make sure i can keep him for life, otherwise il stick him on aquarist classifieds if my lfs wont have him. dont want to b one of those that 'oh the fish has got too big! where can i dump it?'
thanks for everyones help.
