when you go see the fish for yourself look at its dorsal and see if its a solid black or see if the black bars are protruding up into to the dorsal which will make it black but you should be able to see at the base of the dorsal fin if the black is solid or if its broken up a little. if its completly solid its a female if its broken then its male. from the pic it looks solid and thats why im going with female. another thing is the picture isnt reall close enough to tell but i dont see any blue speckling on the fins which also points female. not saying there isnt i just cant see any from the pic. ive seen green on the face on females like males also the only thing that would point to male for me is the trailing fins. from the picture nobody can say for 100 percent what sex it is.

Hey sorry I,m not planning to get this fish anymore. I called the store and said if they sell for $40 I come and buy it now but she said NO. ok... NO problem.. I dont want it.
It is too out of my way. It's almost an hour drive, the fish is not wild. Their price not competitive $50 unsexed. I dont like the skinny tail bone. I know that I have spending problem and it is why Im poor still. Plus the store has a lot of festaes so it isnt the only one around. They selling 4" for $30 each.. My female is still at 4" and they take forever to grow so Im in no rush. I got limited space and other fishes I want.
I have a feeling it will be a problem in my tank also because they house it by itself for a reason. I do not have a separate "in case" tank for it. I want, but not badly so Im not gonna drive there. I'll use the money for an oil change for my car..
And ****rules. I will send you the store name and address. It's all you bro. If it's there next month or I just happen to be around that area, I will go swoop oit up though. But I dont wanna drive there.

I'm reading this thread and watching my own Festae swim around in their tank and i'm still confused as to what sex mine are. Just when I think I have them figured out they change colors on me. So I feel your pain. I do think my largest one is a male though. I'm sorry that you couldn't get a better deal on that fish. Maybe another member will offer you a better deal on a positively sexed Festae.
Im getting rid of my female because I dont have an actual pair... deal with dem next time...But Will look to keep them again..
