that looks more like a red ear sunfish than a green to me, although i will admit i have seen only 2 small greens in my time, but the head shape is typical of red ear's, and if it came from a FL breeding pond it is very likely

lol well they are acclimated to the cichlid tank now and chasing off the cichlids battling for food

You could be right. Even brightening the pics I couldn't get a good view, and it doesn't look quite like a greenie, but not quite enough unlike one that I could discount it. I didn't even think of a redear.
