Arapa, would you say that your Gars are less inclined to bother their tankmates because they are used to eating processed food and not live feeders?
Is it safe to put my 7" CK in there with my 12" Gar?

my CK used to bully my gar...i ended up having to sell it, but i have heard of them working together. gar do very well w/ other gar species...as long as they are of similar sizes. many other tankmates will work, but it would be pointless to list that many species. just try choosing fish that are not overly aggressive and not small enough to be eaten.

i have never noticed a connection between feeding a gar live food or prepared foods with them being less or more aggressive. it is just much healthier and safer to feed prepared foods.

I really think it is because both them and their tankmates feel more comfortable being in larger tanks. I also built both my 52k and 15 with blind spots (L shape) and with low walls which also give privacy.

They also enjoy the the lack of light because I don't give them a lot.

I very seldom feed live food and that just might be a reason also.

Found a couple of pics of my longnose gar for you.
