So another part of a pattern of snide, antagonistic, unwarranted and/or downright ignorant commentary by this one individual (amongst a crew of a few) directed towards Don Conkel is appropriately de-gassed.

At some point, many, many among us will be wondering, "What is this person's PROBLEM?"
and "What can this person's unsavory AGENDA possibly be?"

Wow i'm still trying to figure out myself why there's always a problem when these fish come from that particular credible source.

Of note, Don mentioned in passing today that although he wouldn't mind doing so, he has never spoken about tropicals in any respect whatsoever, neither recently, nor in the past, with any "Chris" or "Christopher" in Virginia Beach. Mr. Conkel, however, is on exceedingly good terms with the TF store owner there, his good friend Bob Hames, and said that they would be discussing a few things in the morning.

I didn't want to quote all the scientific data. Accept or dismiss my comment about some of the fish in Conkels book that were deemed by him to be species ultimately turning out NOT to be species. I don't see sp. Ebano or sp. Green around much anymore either. If the Catemaco fish is officially described as a new species so much the better for all of us. I hope it is!

Regarding the part I am featuring above, I'll choose to quote Don himself in a post he made here.

"In regards to a retailer or hobbyist in Virgina Beach, I do not sell to one. The last person that I delt with in Virgina was Ed Taylor more than 10 years ago."

Seems to fly in the face of Paul's conversation with Don. Or Don doesn't deal with "good friends" any more frequently than every 10 years.

Here's the link where it can be found. Post #64.

You guys make it so easy.

I'll refrain from correcting every single utterance from the lunatic fringe..... Keep searching through my posts though. This could get entertaining.

Almost forgot to mention: HOT Paratheraps buddha1200!!! - and congrats on having rare & beautiful wild Centrals to breed!

So, to clear things up, please answer the following:

1. Does Don do business in VB? He told me he doesn't and told you he does.

2. Are YOU in fact Don Conkel?

; )

OK. In the interest of showing just how rumors and reputations can snowball, whether of one's own doing or not, I'll post the PM that I sent to Paul / Don in the hopes he pass on the comments to Don / himself. Hopefully it is received in the spirit in which it was sent rather than something to twist into a conspiracy or accusation:

"If you are indeed speaking to Don about his "friend" at a LFS in VB and want to truly help him out, suggest to Don that he speak to his friend about the condition in which he presents Don's stock. My comments have fallen on deaf ears.

Fish exhibiting lymph is common (upon arrival in many cases or within a couple of days otherwise). If you'd like photos, I can provide them. Other lesser issues too that seem to result from poor handling (e.g. ammonia burns that could result from delays in unpacking). Most absurd is the manner in which the LFS places them as pairs or groups isolated in tanks only to see them "off" each other.

Regardless of the source of the issues, and it could certainly be the LFS's problem, they don't reflect well on Don. AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, he has some great fish. However, he is not benefitting from their presentation IRRESPECTIVE of who is at fault. "

That dead horse is alive and well on Holland Rd. in Virginia Beach! :WHOA:

Paratheraps-a-plenty there too! They look very healthy (unlike a few others they have), and I'm about to pull the trigger on a couple of pairs.
