i would have never even thought retic in a ID on that ray... never seen retics with spots...
 
sorry the picture is bad, its from a website labelled as hystrix and i was pretty positive it wasnt

When IDing its my opinion that people look at color and pattern more then they should. Scientist classify animals that are dead and in preserved in alchohol hence color and pattern is pretty much never important.

With rays, I look first at tail shape, eye and spiracle shape/size, disk shape, and then pattern.

That ray was 100% retic though, here is the thread on it..
