Hi guys, i m relativly new to this forum, i am planning to build my first SW fish tank and i had a few questions hope you can help me.

I asked my local glass store if they can build me a tank thats

5 foot long x 1.8 foot wide x 1.5 foot deep

he said that is not a problem and i asked him about the glue that he will be using he said he will be using a UV based glue.

i plan to buy that tank and then apply marine safe silicon from the inside just to re-ensure waterproofing.
i have attached the plan.

now here are the questions.

1- is the uv glue safe, as far as the fish are concerned?
2- would the moment i fill this baby with almost 100g of water would the pressure inside force open the joints and explode? (that would be not cool!!!)
3- do you see any flows?

UV based glue. Never heard of it. Silicone cures with humidity.

just googled it and there is UV glue. Not suitable for aquaria I am afraid. have a read here http://www.glass-etching-kits.com/uv_glass_glue_orders.htm

The bit that concern aquarium is building is under safety concerns
2. Do not use UV glue to secure any object that will be exposed to a lot of water. Water will degrade the adhesive strength of the glue over time, causing the bond to fall apart. So don't use UV glue on your aquarium (use silicone for that) unless you enjoy vacuuming water out of your carpet.

Go to an LFS and ask them. Most shops here will happily get tanks built to your spec. They might be a bit more expensive but you know they have experience. For the size of tank you're looking at I would be surprised if it cost more than 700Dhs to get it built properly.

ok but i would be securing it with silicon from the inside hense water proofing the glue itself.

but had a second thought and then what if there is a leak ... hummmm...

if i dont use the uv glue... would the silicon alone hold it ?

What is the purpose of the wood between the wall and the glass?

the purpose of the wood

1- to get a flater surface
2- make the pluming easier, cable ties easier.
3- will paint it in black

Can explain your thoughts on getting a flatter surface? From my understanding, you are just putting this on the back of the tank? Is it to cover the hole/space in the wall where the filtration will be kept?
