@Pharoah

Yes for me to hide the holow space in the background.

i will also need to build a cabinet on top... ( out of light weight Gibson board with the top open. where i can put the lights and store the food , test kits, etc.

Sounds good. Other than the UV glue, it seems as though you are set to go.

such a pity that you don't have craigslist over there. I just picked up a 5'x1.5'x1.8' (so reverse the height and width) for 50$ and a 29g trade.

what thickness are you thinking on the glass?

I noticed that my 100g with similar dimensions has 1/2" glass while my 125g which is longer and an inch taller has 3/8" glass. both are braced similarly and the 1/2" seems extreme over kill as I've never noticed anything with my 125. either when moving or when in use. So I'd recommend 3/8" with a center brace at the top like both my tanks have. it would be simply adding another 1'x1.8' (less the glass thickness) panel to the build and it would be plenty strong.

Go with 1/2" on the tank. 3/8" would work for bracing.

is this what you guys mean with bracing ?
the yellow pieces are four triangles cut and put at the corners on top.

the red is on flat sheet of 3/8'' glass in the center. i would rather avoid this if this is what you meant.

please advice.

Ramzi, whilst i empathize with your desire to build your own tank from scratch, it's simply not worth it here. You can give your measurements to a fish shop get a quote and have them build and test it.

Where do you live in Dubai?

House : Garhoud
Work : DIC
which fish shop do you go to ?
i went to the one in lulu center ( the one near emirates mall) the price for a sump thats 40g was quotes at 400AED , that didnt include the media or pump or protien trimmer.

so i didnt ask for anything more ...

If you do not want the bracing, then I suggest going with thicker glass all around as a minimum.

i dont mind putting the orange brace ( refer to my previous post with the attachment...but the red on thats in the center i didnt like it ...

keep in mind that the base of the tank will have a 1.5inch rim.
