Ideas for my 125 - open to all

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well considering that i want something cool... aggressive. all the cool ones are agressive. maybe three fish of that larger variety. i want an arowana real bad. but under 40 bucks lol

well an arrowana, will out grow that tank. and you can get some that are under 40 bucks. But I have pictus catfish that I really like and 4 of them in the tank will keep your bottom active as long as the lights are not to bright, since they are kinda nocturnal fish.

well i dont know why but i tend to stear clear of the catfish. they just arent my cup-o-joe. would an arowana really grow it out? i plan on getting another tank when i move out of here in a year. would it be safe to get a smaller one now then put it in a bigger tank in a year or would that be pushing it?

You realize that a full grown aro gets 40" right? I agree that they are cool, and I would love also some day to have a few, but be ready for 300 gallons plus to house these beautiful monsters comfortably.

IMO a 125 would look great with 1 school of Rams (10 - 12), and 2 other large schools of small schooling fish. (tetras etc)

I'd go wet pet on it, but that's just because of how rewarding my experience has been. I have a wild caught peru oscar, three adult armulatus raphael catfish, and an L200. The cats all come out like little demon vacuums at night and glide around in their ghostly way. The Oscar is totally pretty and fun, too. The L200 I almost never see unless I drop some veggies in. But it's not bad for a half-arsed Rio Orinoco biotope.

so stay away from the arowana until i get a 300? ok thats fine. should i get an oscar then? what are the recommended tank mates for the oscar? i want more than one but no more than 5

haha. a little too agressive for my tastes. but good thought.

idk. an oscar sonuds like a decent fish for right no. maybe ill ge tto throw an arowana into the mix when i get a larger tank. lord knows im going to need one with the fish i plan on having :)

with an oscar and a big tank you might be able to get a green terror, jack dempsey. the electric blues are pretty but can be very expensive and are not as hardy till they get a little bigger.
