holy crap! lol i want to knwo who is a boy who is a girl and what species im getting. but thanks for the link! lol they have mixed chiclids at walmart but idk what species they are. i plan on breeding them leter in their lives.
africans can be tough to sex, your best bet is something like that rather than trying to pick out healthy fish out of a walmart tank, malawi's are great beginners, they dont care species, gender whatever, they form their own little pecking order and all you have to do is sit back and watch, plus they are super easy to breed

how do i go about caring for the colony of rams? or any other? can i mix two colonies?
rams, you would need to add driftwood to tht tank and bump up filtration and waterchanges in order to provide the clean, soft water they need to survive ;)
other colonies, it just dpends on the specific needs of the fish, one more idea for you if you want a true wet pet http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fw&1275858005

haha. ive heard that they are a female dog to take care of. i think ill stick with the acs. whats in your avatar? jw.

btw do you have any stock that you would be willing to sell me?
or current breeding projects i could peek at?

If you want something that will breed like rabbits hit up some pink convict cichlids you will have 200 new ones every month. (female = red/yellow belly) as far as a lid goes I wouldnt use fiberglass for it doesnt let enough light threw most glass places are pretty reasonable for the glass you need to make a lid. However if you want them to polish the edges it will cost more but they wont be as sharp. I just bought some plastic that fit over mine. If you go glass you can set the shop light right on it or you can hang it in your canopy.

As far as fish go i would avoid walmart at all cost. Get to know the workers at your lfs just stop in to see what they have and talk fish. alot of times it results in great knowlege and even better deals. Also i have found that if you have them special order fish and can pick them up when they come in its cheaper then getting what they have in the tank. you might like a fire eel or some knife fish they are all really cool to see swimming around. Lastly if you are up for the challenge look into live plants. there are lots of youtube vids for do-it-yourself c02 systems. if you go this route start with the plants and give them a chance to start growing before you add fish as Africans like there plants.

it was in menards make sure you take a peice of your glass in with you tho to make sure it fits you you decide to go with hinges you wont have to worry as much about the edges. as for a handle just get some nice looking knobs and silicone them to the lid they will work and look great.
