Hello all, a local pet shop gave me this freshwater prawn because of its agressivness. Its about 2 1/2 inches long (excluding the front claws and anttenae) head to tail. Front spine is red and the head is transparent with a couple of black latteral lines on each side. Claws are black and red banded with yellowish tips. Can someone please help me identify this prawn? I have been looking all over the web and cannot find any info on it. Thanks!!!

These are the best pictures I can get of it right now. Its kinda difficult to snap a good pic of it because it likes to move under the driftwood when apporached.

It's a juvenile Macrobrachium dacqueti (what used to be called M. rosenbergii dacqueti until a 2007 revision, and which will still be called M. rosenbergii in any of the aquaculture literature you come across).

Compare: photos.

Can get quite large -- especially males -- but few invertebrates will have as much personality.

Thank you very MUCH! Anything I should know of this thing? I have it in my 75 Gallon with 2 1 inch bamboo shrimps, 2 Crappies and a bunch of ghost shrimps. It appears I have a female?

Yeah, it will probably eat it's tankmates eventually.

Everything I have read about this species indicates that his/her companions are destined to be dinner. On one of these forums a man named Tim (Timman or Timmain), said he had had one he called Petula, who grew to be between 18 and 24 inches long. She was put into an outdoor pond at a local fish store, where she wowed and amazed folks with her size! Seems like the big gal is no longer with us.....

Looking good. What do ya feed it? Full tank shot?
