Because the victim in the end has more of a chance to fight back(everyone knows if the guy's bigger than you kick him in the balls or grab a bat esp if it's abuse) and while there are no repercussions for beating a fish, if he touched a human it would be abuse and at least a law against it.

Not that anyone deserves beat, but pets are an innocent party in the equation.

Just can't imagine someone ripping you all of the sudden to an atmosphere where you can't breath and then curb stomping you to death.

None of you will probably see it the same but my thought.

I would rather that people, property, and pets not get beat, but I would also rather that guy spend 90 days in jail for killing an animal in a malicious manner. Why? Behavior like that shows a propensity toward violence. Won't be long before those blows land on a person.

I did find it strange that they didnt charge him with animal cruelty or anything like that. And yes its not a far step from abusing animals to abusing people.

That is part of the problem. Killing a fish is not the same in the courts as killing a dog or cat. We only want to save the cute animals. If someone keeps a dog in a kennel full of crap, people call animal control. If someone keeps a fish in a tank chalk full of nitrates, no one says a thing.
