The amount we consume is just ridiculous, imo the least we can do is recycle to reduce our footprint on this earth!
For example when you buy a 12 pack, save the box, and when you chug em all just put the bottles back in the box and be done with it. how hard is that? If you want your kids and grand kids to enjoy this earth like we have then we better start now!
The worst is when people throw crap out their car window, nothing makes me angrier then that, freaking hillbillys man..
What gets me are the people with kids who just throw everything away then say they just don't have time. Or the ones who say they don't bother because it makes no difference. We have a 90 gallon can from the city for garbage that gets picked up twice a week. The people next door have it overflowing every time. Know a lot of people who say they should, but it's too much trouble or if they got paid to do it they would.
True, we did it for years when there was no curbside program so you had to gather it all up and take to the site. Only had curbside for a little over a year now and on second company because not enough people signed up for it.
Trash pickup is expensive, so we recycle everything we can. I also burn my paper/cardboard and feed all the scraps to the chickens. We manage to get by with the smallest size (cheapest) trash can and it still costs over $20/month.
Plastic milk jugs are definitely OK, not sure about the paper cartons - I'm sure this varies from county to county.
Ok, "hate" is to strong. If you're a tree hugger, I don't hate you. We recycle everything. I guess what I mean is, if you are going to have a recycle program, it shouldn't have stupid restrictions like no pizza boxes or milk cartons. I asked an employee at the recycle facility in my community why no pizza boxes or milk jugs...he said, " because the food still on/in them will rot and create a toxic environment". I asked, " what about the people who recycle beer cans? Those reek!" He said, "the fire in the meltdown process...blah,blah,blah" Anyway, sorry tree huggers. I agree with everything you stand for, just the methodology is where I start to get frustrated.
