Are you allowed to take home a SH in the states if you plan on eating it? Like if you catch it, and kill it, can you take home the fish or do they steal it and dispose of it?

You can take it home after killing it where you found it. The law includes, as a felony, the transportation of live SHs and their viable eggs. Before prepping it for eating, notify F&G. They'll want to check it to see if there may be any indication of tagging to record the species' movements and ranging.
