Reallybigfish - I saw your beautiful GT in 1 of your thread, and that was the very first time I saw a GT with hump, that is why I am wondering if GT with hump is rare or not. Do you have him with another female GT or other tank mates, and notice any change of his hump size ?(decrease/increase?)

He has a small hump when he is by himself. When he is with a female or another male, his hump gets really big.

Hump was like this at store but went back down to normal a few days by itself in my tank.

In my case at least, that's absolutely not true. :)

I just wouldn't recommend Petsmart Gt's. On average, you can get better one's else where. You might have gotten a good deal. Post your fish. =)

There were only 8 left when I first saw them, I wished I could have seen how the others look. I asked the gal at the lfs to hold 1 for me, she said it was $30, and when I tried to pick him up yesterday, another gal (she is the manager) said he is $45 because he has a nice hump. I looked at the GT for 30 minutes, couldn't resist myself not getting him, so I got him in my tank now. The rest of the GTs are marked $35, and only 1 has a tiny hump, but is clamp-fins. Did I got ripped off??!!

IMO $30 or $35 would be a fine price... However I would have not paid $45 because of being quoted a different price prior. I bet if you would have said something she would have given you the lower price... I'm pretty familiar with the people who work there. None of them are really "informed" occasionally I get accurate prices if the tank not marked who knows what price you will get.

I think GTs are awesome. A hump means it is probably male. (I've never seen a female GT w/ one anyway)

Not worth $30 though, you could get a nice adult for that price, and they grow slooooooooooooow.
i agree, thats pretty expensive

I don't have the fish yet, still debating if I should get it, so no pics. How old is a 4 incher should be? I saw him in a tank with 10 others, but he is the only one that has a hump. I hope he is a male, since I have no intention to breed. Thanks everybody for the advice.

if thats the case id snap him up just for the heck of it since he diff than the others worth the risk

these are from december last year. He's about 6 inches I think, but I've never measured him.

Reallybigfish your gt is beautiful. My males (8inches TL and a 9 mounths old) colours are just as good as yours but it lacks the thickness and hump that yours has, how old is yours? and did its growth slow down at 8 inches?
