Your in NJ huh? My friend just got an apt. and was not able to bring his tank because a tenant's tank broke and flooded the land lady's basement.

You didn't happen to live right off Rt.22, did you...lol

I did!!! No just kidding, well at least I'm not the only one. My land lady was awesome about it, everyone said I was crazy to tell her since the floor wasn't warped or anything, she's so nice she actually offered me a spare tank she had in her basement. I don't know how happy my 2'plus eel would have been in a 10g.

The pressure is there no matter what material it is made of. You do not have to worry about a silicone seam seperating with acrylic. But it could still bust. And plus it looks like you half axxed it when you set it up when the water level is off.

You know you have these triangular supports at the 4 corners at the base of your tank. For over 3 months, I've been using only 3 of them on my 50 gal cos I lost the last one. A few days back, I found the 4th support. Once I had emptied out the tank completely, I placed the last support back and filled it up with water again.

When I was all done, suddenly I head a loud crack and my tank started spraying water from all 4 sides of the base. After successfully flooding my room, I checked the damage on the tank. A nice 3 feet crack on the base.

Upon further investigation, I realised that when you placed all 4 triangular thingies at the 4 corners of the tank, the base doesn't actually rest flat on the surface its on. The base was sorta "levitated".

Word of advice, styrofoam support at the base of your tank will save you a hell lot.

so will the 8ft acrylic tank go bye bye if the balance is off by half inch?

Try to get it as close as possible. i Put the level on my tank and got it within the black lines as much as possible.

haha picture this :) you're having a standing contest you get 10 seconds to choose a pose that you can not move from. do you stand straight up or lean a little forward, backward, or to either side?

tanks feel the same way :)
styrofoam is the easiest fix.

Styrofoam will not necessary fix an uneven tank. Styro will help to eliminate the small issues witht he tops of stands. Having a tank off level will not matter whether you have styro under it or not. Eventually it will bust. Most tanks are built so that they have a 1" variance allowed for leveling. I would not try and find out if this is true or not. Styro is a must on acrylic tanks, optional on glass. Try to get the tank as level as you can. After you put the shims under it, take a razor knife and cut the shims, break them off from underneath the stand. This will make them less visible, especially on carpet.

Oh, and my first 29G leaned forward and was about 3/4" higher in the front. When I moved it and set it up level again. It held for about a month and then the seam blew out. Almost lost some expensive fish too.
