That's just an opinion bro Trace. And my opinion is that it is unsung because true King is the Dovii. But who cares about that. Just us rivaling the 2 along with the topic. They are both great fish for the right person. Both are cool mofos..

A well taken care of Nicaraguan Dovii must be seen in person to appreciate the blue glaze.

By colors, vicious look, and sturdiness Dovii Win. By shape and overall everything together as one fish, Umbees got a nicer look.

Just get both at the sizes you can house for about a year, and plan as you go

Just by type and not seeing any fish My choice is Umbee first.

Doviis Im specific but if I see the right one, I'd catch.
 
If I could only keep one it would be a Dovii, but that said I'd rather have both - cause Im greedy and I can.

Still trying to find an umbee.
 
As it stands now, dovii because find a tank big enough for an umbee will be harder than one for a dovii. If I had the housing I would go for umbee because I like the looks a little better. Too bad I don't see either around here to make a decision based on what I've seen. Never seen either in person.

So... how is housing an umbee any different than housing a dovii?

I believe he was insinuating that umbees get bigger than dovii. And from what I can tell they tend to reach same sizes. Mel is excluded as I don't know anyone who's kept a single umbee as long as he has that dovii.

my umbees are great but i remember having dovii a few years back and boy were they nuts lol. when the dovii were spawning they were truly amazing to watch and the colors def. rivaled that of a blue umbee, thats one of the many reasons i love huge cichlids, you just cant beat their personality and color
