If you use a Python Water Change system, then I have a question for you..

I replaced that and have had great results since switching to kitchen sink. My steps are as follows and I use API tap water conditioner which is 1ml (tsp) per 20 gallons. Bottle isnt expensive and contains 473ml so even dosing for a whole 200g tank its almost a year supply of weekly water changes.

1: hook up system to faucet and put gravel vac in tank.
2: turn on faucet until hose fills with water from aquarium.
3: turn off faucet to save water.. (siphon is started and will continue..)
4:clean tank and allow water to drain to desired level. I have started doing %50 w/c's lately.
5:this is tricky part.. i usually leave all valves open but break siphon by raising tank side out of water but still in the tank.
6: dose tank for full water volume
7: turn sink on (make sure the other end isnt still in water or it can restart suction!) and balance hot/cold to perfect tank temp. I measure with a digital thermal probe because its instant.
8:turn knob on faucet side to allow perfect temp water to go down hose into tank until fully filled.
9: done! turn off water and drain/put away hose usually without a drop spilled anywhere.

Almost exactly how I do it except I let the sink run while I vac up the waste, then I shut it off to finish draining.

You could buy a home with well water. :)
Seriously, I would rather my tap water be treated than deal with these, much more common before water treatment was well understood or practiced:

They still will occasionally pop up, which is why you will sometimes see warnings for people with compromised immune systems about drinking tap water or have a city wide order to boil your water.

My fish are still pretty small so the debris is as well. I use the gravel vac just like the old fashioned short hose to bucket style and stab down into the gravel and after 5 seconds or so everything gets pulled up and I just stab down all over until it's clean. That's just with the siphon, although I could see with VERY large debris that might not get pulled up although I see a lot of people thinking it's a vacuum which obviously it isn't. By stabbing down into the gravel it ensures that all the flow and debris go UP the hose. :)


I used to use a garden hose and man the water pressure was so high it would create so much vacuum that it would flatten the hose! lol

In my experience suction is much better when siphoning into a bucket. What determines how much suction you get is the height of your tank compared to your sink/bucket. What I do is I siphon the water into the toilet because it is much lower than the sink and I get better suction, plus I save water. When using the sink method I had to have the water on full blast to even get decent suction.
 
I highly doubt raw tap water will kill all the bb... It would probibly kill some but not all. Lucky me beacause I use well water and I don't need declorenater...
 
I have been using a python and bucket since I started cleaning my tanks witch was about 1-2 months in the hobby... I have a lot of tanks now and when my fish get bigger in my 120 I will have to double or triple my wc scedwel... I might start having to wcs on week days when my fish get bigger beacause I don't want to do wcs all weekend long...

That makes sense. My tanks are about 2' higher than the exit of the sink, but yeh, the height is a big deal. If you had a tank in a basement for example and tried to use the faucet to create enough suction to pull up to a sink upstairs it would never work.

I have seen some neat ideas using a submersible pump with a wand that were pretty neat for creating some monster "poop-sucking" power.. lol
