The convict and Firemouth,I have been thinking of getting rid of,cause my Texas has outgrown them by 2 inches. The Oscar I may end up keeping, since he was my first cichlid and can actually battle.

GT, JD, Salvini and Texas are way stronger and more aggressive than Oscars of the same size. The oscar will be bullied once they catch up to his size, but you can keep it and see if it works, you have the space.

I am not too big on skipping the growing stages on fishes, even though sometimes I wish my GT,Severum,JD would grow faster lol. What isn't shock to me is,my Texas who has a good personality,is going to be outgrowing my GT and severum very soon.I am not sure though honestly.I just think too many people have the same common fishes in their set up like me.Wish I could make mine stand out more,by having fishes like argentea, black belt, trimac, black nasty, sagittae.Just to name randomly, not to have all in one tank, just to see the black nasty kill them all lol

if you want people to admire your fish, then just order some high quality/rare fish on the internet and have it shipped to you.

Much brighter colors usually means a male, also one lady I know, identified it as male too.

She was wrong. Oscar cichlids are sexually monomorphic, which means there's no way to tell them apart until they reach sexual maturity (around 10") and lay eggs... unless you vent them, and I don't think venting is 100% sure at juvenile sizes.

Well an Oscar is as "common" as you can get.

Get a festae pair or a male flowerhorn if you want something uncommon and impressive.

I think the only bad thing about keeping fish for others to enjoy is that you are the one that has to care for and keep these fish. You should keep fish that you enjoy even if they are cichlids commonly found in stores. Having a show tank of incredible fish is only really incredible if you can stand looking at them every day.

Isn't a flowerhorn sensitive though?

It's not... it's one of the hardiest fish you can get, because it's man-made... living in captivity is all it knows. The problem is they're very aggressive and often kill all of their tankmates, so you can have one by itself or with fish that you don't mind losing.
