illegal fish sold.

Money. On the part of the store itself, or the wholesaler selling to the store. *shrugs* Some stores intentionally re-name or use generic names to get around the laws so they can sell things. Others just get caught up in it being labeled incorrectly by the wholesaler and not knowing better.

I've ended up with a few fish and crayfish that way, went out to other states to take them from friends because they were illegal to be kept in those particular states. :\

ummm yes there are a million fish police. if you have a fish & game department in your state then you have game wardens. they have no problem enforcing fines if you can prove it! just call them!!

In my are the only places that have illegal fish are the stores that carry a lot of oddballs. Like a store near me gets rays all the time, but they get one ray at a time. And when people ask if it's freshwater the people say no it's saltwater, but we put it in fresh to kill parasites.:screwy:

But I agree you should know what you are buying before you buy it.

I think the most common illegal fish that i see around here is the Alligator gar because there are so many gars that look the same.

i bet you were talking about the walking catfish, am i right? I really have no idea that they are illegal in United States, I was just assumed that they are illegal in Florida and other neighbor states. And I can see one problem, the lfs do not labeled their products "IM ILLEGAL", its not their job to tell us that this fish is illegal, all they want is money.

ive encountered this a few times, lfs that have illegal fish that they didnt know what they were and still tried to sell them at high prices when i would knw perfectly well what they were and they are no where near that price. I end up telling the owner what they are and that they are illegal to sell, theya re shcoked at first but still sell them. money money money.!!

Just like Snakehead, I seen a lot of them forsale here in Ontario, but no one care, no one bother, and they disappear in matter of weeks

so...

no one enforce the law

Around here I've seen some illegal fish and nothing really happens about it, illegal turtles too, just..no one really cares lol
