IF prime is cheaper, I'll use it by any means! I never knew anything about it and did little research on it. I get the nova aqua junk when its on sale at petsmart. for $18, i can treat almost 8000 i think.

If Seachems aquarium Prime is cheaper for you then it is worth checking out Seachems Pond prime. When my 2 litre bottle of prime runs out I am switching to that.

A 500ml bottle of aquarium prime treats 5000g but a 500ml bottle of pond prime treats over 10,000g.
The two 500ml bottles are priced roughly the same here in the UK, can't see it being much different in the States.

I too use prime primarily because my local water has, at times, high amounts of metals and ammonia in the water. Also, during our yearly flood chloramines can get very high. I buy both AmQuel and Prime (whenever I find a deal) and use them alone or together. I use NovAqua as well but for simple water treatments I need something to neutralize ammonia.
I also tested prime while working at the LFS on our saltwater tanks. We were having problems due to the owner (not a fish guy) not maintaining his RO system and haphazardly dosing with copper. After several failed attempts to stabilize the tanks and get nitrates down (they were typically around 80ppm) a good dose of prime stopped the die offs and got everything under control. After that I stuck to prime and we had no more problems despite the crazy things he did with the tanks.
