Im at the brink of losing patience!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Something just doesn't seem right about this tank cycle. I have had good luck adding the quick start with fish. I think the BB are much more forgiving than people give them credit for to help adjust for new bioload.

The only difference I did for testing is that I shaked every bottle before using for 10 seconds....and of coarse di the 30seconds for the nitrate.

.

I have to make a side note. If you hadn't been shaking the test solution bottles before and are now shake the bottles those test solutions in those bottles could be weak. And not give an accurate reading. You may need to buy new test kit.

I would suggest just tossing a few fish in, really. ;D And if they don't die, they don't die. If they do... there's an issue. :P

To be honest I never cycle my tanks (well I do for the larger tanks, for like 3 days, then I get impatient and toss my fish in) and my fish are fine. Not saying that you shouldn't cycle your tank, nor that it's not a good idea, but if you're impatient like me, you'd just want to see fish swimming around and it may be worth the risk to just go for it and hope for the best. Really, in all honesty, might as well just try that. Testing your water over and over again I'm sure will continue to yield puzzling results and will just piss you off.

Or add a filter or media from an established filter?

You're making this WAY harder than it needs to be...

Matt

I forgot to mentin it in the first thread...I did add established media in the tank little more then a week ago. tested the water and I have .25 ammonia again! However 0 nitrites.....what I will do is purchase a new kit since ihavent been shaking the bottles. I think since I use Seachem Prime, which apparently does something to ammonium not ammonia...it gets read as ammonia. This is confusing. I think I'm going to not use prime for the remainder of the duration of this cycle...and just use regular tap water. Or I will purchase stress coat as I dont think it does anything with ammonia.

Also after messaging with Seachem a few times today...I may purchase thier test kit for ammonia as well. As it tests for Free Ammonia separately from Total....vice versa.
