I'm baaaack! 970 Gallon Pond Project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am not sure if it is the same there where you are but when I was growing up and getting into fish my dad always told me when choosing a heater size to go 3 watts per gallon he said its more then what you will need but you can adjust them and the heates won't have to work as hard to heat the water ... but we never had an outside pond with tropicals in them ( live close to St. louis and the winters can get Very cold)
But just wanted to share that with you :) looking forward to seeing this Beast up and running!

How big is your RTC now ? I have a Rtcx Tsn I got it at 3 inches a few days before christmas when I was over at a friends house and they was telling me that their son bought a very pretty little catfish so I asked to see it and the boy had it in a large betta vase!!! Needless to say I got on their comp and showed them what it would turn into and they had no idea and asked if I would take it and so I did and now hes pushing 14 Inches :-)

O hes in a 300 gallon pond now :)

Are you planning to use a top? Evaporative cooling is a killer on something with so much surface area.

yeah I think a lid will be vital to keep water clear and temp constant...

3 watts per gallon would put me at about 2100 watts... Not really in my budget, so ill have to think outside the box.

Why not run 2 lines and do one of those instant water heaters they out under sinks... I am not sure if it can be regulated or not though for a specific temperature but I bet you culd think of something...

Those instant water heaters may not be efficient for something that runs 24 hours a day.

I don't know man they are rated pretty high and they do used them for industrial use as well.... I don see why it would work... just have to make up a switch for when it gets warm enough it shuts off....

Project terminated. Relationship ended, packed up the tanks and pond. Every thing is on CL.
